Brooke just can't explain how terrified she is to have a second child to Sean, not when he doesn't know her secret. She has kept it from him all of this time and she tempted fate when she had daughter, Meghan, but she just can't risk it all again. When old boyfriend Alex, now divorced and mourning the death of his young son, surfaces, events from the past are brought back to the surface with alarming speed, causing Brook to re-evaluate all that she holds dear.
The Lost Daughter captivated me from the opening scene. The reader catches a glimpse into the events that transpired all of those years ago and leaves the reader wanting to know more. Author Lucy Ferriss feeds the reader enough information to ignite their curiosity but certainly does not tell us the whole story right away. This is one of those books that you find impossible to put down once you've picked it up.
What struck me the most was the fact that I spent time thinking about The Lost Daughter even when I wasn't reading it. It truly is one of those books that makes you wonder what's going to happen next while you're lying in bed just before you fall asleep or when you're cooking dinner. For me that is an indication of what a great book this was. The subject matter was not always pleasant but it was compelling.
Well-written, haunting, and deeply moving, The Lost Daughter is a beautiful novel about marriage and about forgiving oneself for mistakes that were made in the past. It is a book whose content you will not easily forget.
