It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas....

I'm having a decidedly hard time getting into the Christmas Spirit this year. Even though I adore the Christmas Season and everything that goes with it (a week and a half off with my husband, the extra family time, seeing my extended family, the food, the lights and the tree) most of the gift buying falls solely on my shoulders. Hubby will come out for one shopping trip with me to choose the larger gifts, but that's all he can handle as far as shopping goes. The little stuff, the stuff for the bosses and nieces and nephews and the teachers and the bus drivers, falls on me to seek out, purchase, wrap and deliver. It's overwhelming and even though I try to be organized, I'm never quite done when I hope to be (okay, so I'm not even close!).

Honestly the purpose of this post isn't just to have an audience to whine to, but to tell you that I am forcing myself to get into the Christmas mood. The snow that fell for the first time today is certainly helping, but my favourite thing to do to get into the Christmas mood? I watch Christmas movies. I slowly add my favourites to my collection and watch them when I'm in need of a little Christmas cheer. Here are the movies that without which, it just wouldn't be Christmas:

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

This is my hands-down favourite Christmas movie, not to mention my favourite version of "A Christmas Carol". There's just something about Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog that puts me in the holiday mood, plus, what is there not to love about the story?

Elf (2003)

Will Ferrell as hilarious and good-hearted elf Buddy never fails to put me in a good mood. Zooey Deschanel is fantastic as well. One of my favourite scenes? When 6 foot tall Buddy is shocked to discover that he is adopted.

Dr.Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)

This is one of my favourites to watch with the boys. This classic animated film will remain one of my favourites, and the message is wonderful amid the chaos of the holiday season: we don't need presents to be happy, just each other.

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

This is my favourite version of the classic film, probably because I can't get enough of the adorable Mara Wilson. And do you know what? "I believe". I am completely in love with the scene in the courtroom!

A Christmas Story (1983)

Although this isn't my favourite Christmas film, it remains at the top of hubby's list, so we watch it without fail every year. I love it because he loves it, and that's good enough for me (although I do love that lamp scene!).

What are some of your must-watch Holiday films???

  3. The holidays definitely come with a price tag -- financially and physically, haha! But it's still such a fun and festive time of year. :)

For us, it's not Christmas until we watch "Christmas Vacation" (hilarious -- always a classic), "Home Alone 2: Lost In New York" (makes me teary-eyed; just love it!) and, of course, "A Christmas Story." That's my dad's absolute favorite, and we usually have it on in the background during TBS's "24 Hours Of 'A Christmas Story'" here in the U.S.!

  4. I love Charlie Brown Christmas & Grinch... but I really adore Snowglobe- which is not at all a classic, but a chick movie on during Christmastime every year
