This was actually a big step for me. It's not like I dislike the new house in any way, even when we were in the process of buying it, but I am a creature of habit. We rented our previous house for five and a half years, and we made a lot of memories there. I was pregnant with our now five-year-old son when we moved there. Jay and I got married there in 2008 (well, not there, but you know what I mean!). There have been countless birthdays and anniversaries and parties, good days and bad days, all associated with our old house. It's not like it was anything spectacular. As I was cleaning it for the final time I remarked how little we did to it, color wise, considering it was a rental. The whole house was fairly monochromatic when we moved in and we left it that way. We did the odd thing here or there to the structure itself, but not much. I suppose what really made me sad about leaving it was not the house itself but the memories I worried that I would leave behind. I had a really hard time on our final day there even though when we bought this house we gained so many great things- an extra bedroom, a finished basement, and an additional bathroom with a jacuzzi tub.
We have a lot of unpacking left to do. A lot of tweaking and decorating and adjusting needs to be done yet. But soon, very soon, perhaps without my noticing it, this new house will become our home.
Wishing you much happiness in your new home.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new house! Is that snow I still see? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm like you - a creature of habit - so it always take me a while to settle in.
Heehee, it is snow, but thankfully that picture is one that we took when we first bought it- in February!!! I was just too lazy to go outside and take another one. The living room is current, though!
DeleteI am certainly a creature of habit but we are starting to all settle in and I'm liking it so far. I'm trying to look at this as a new opportunity rather than a "change" (which I detest, lol).
Congratulations on the new home! We moved 18 months ago, we are settled and now I'm having fun putting my stamp on the house. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new home! I can't wait to be more settled in. Right now it feels like everything is everywhere, LOL, but when I think about it we've only lived here for three weeks now, so being unsettled is to be expected!
