I love resolutions. I don't just make them at New Year's (although I do that too), but I make them year round. I kind of feel like I'm at a place in my life where I can make me into the best me possible! I have an amazing husband and three beautiful, challenging, aggravating, lovable children so I feel like the next step in my life is achieving some of my own goals.
2011 was a big year for me as far as meeting personal goals went. I had this "ah-ha" moment in February 2011 that fad diets and diet-pill-popping were just not going to help me to lose any weight so I began eating healthfully and exercising and I lost 26 pounds. My goal is to lose 25 more in 2012 but I'm well on my way. In December 2011 I broke a bad habit that I've had since I was 15 (I'm now 30) and I quit smoking. I can just feel, deep down in my gut, that this time it will stick.
I want to tell you about two books that helped me to achieve my goals last year. Richard Fast has released a series of books titled 29 Days which will help you achieve your personal goals. I received 29 Days to Your Perfect Weight and 29 Days to Your Life Without Cigarettes for review and I took the time to sit down with each and really read through them and then follow them. Essentially each program consists of a lengthy introduction to the process behind the idea and is followed by (you guessed it!) 29 days worth of activities that assist in achieving your goal. Some of the basic ideas behind the program involve positive thinking (which I can always use more of in my life!) and the fact that it has been scientifically proven that it takes 21 days to break an old habit or form a new one. I appreciated the ideas behind the program and I found them easy to apply to my own personal situation.
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I achieved my goals solely by reading these books. It took a lot of determination and willpower and support from my family and friends for me to make some positive changes in my life. However, I can say that these books definitely helped me on my way. They gave me a great head start and I was able to face these challenges with a positive attitude and the belief that I would be successful.
The 29 Day program is not limited to helping those who want to lose weight or quit smoking. There are also programs available for those who wish to achieve financial independence or learn how to communicate more effectively and an introductory program available to those who want to learn how to effectively form new, positive habits. I can highly recommend these programs to those who are looking to change their lives for the better in 2012 and to finally achieve some of the goals that they have wanted to. I'll be hanging on to my copies for when I need a refresher course on positivity in 2012.
