Mailbox Monday is on tour! For the month of August it is being hosted by Chick Loves Lit. Thanks, Shanyn! Each week we share which books found their way into our mailboxes, but be warned: Mailbox Monday can lead to out-of-control wish lists and towering TBR piles!
Four new books found their way onto my bookshelf last week, three contest wins and an intriguing review book!
First to arrive was Come, Thou Tortoise by Jessica Grant, a contest win from Stone Soup. This one has a kind of interesting story to go along with it. I won the book (which Katrina described as "incomparable"), but had never heard of it before her recommendation. Then, when I went to Indigo in Toronto to meet Emily Giffin (yup, it'll be a while until I stop using that one in casual conversation!), I saw a display for this book, with tons of recommendation stickers from the staff plastered to the front! I'm excited to read this book by this debut author, so it's going to make its way to the top of the TBR pile.
Next to arrive was a contest win from Marci at Serendipitous Readings. It contained a copy of The Other Family by Joanna Trollope, another book which I am excited to read!
In the same package from Marci was a surprise book! She also included a copy of Band of Angels by Julia Gregson. Thanks, Marci!
The final book to arrive last week was a review copy, courtesy of Goldberg McDuffie Communications. Russell Wiley is Out To Lunch by Richard Hine won't come out until October, so you'll have to wait until then to read my review, but a blurb on the back cover has intrigued me. It says, "Heralded by Publisher's Weekly as "one part Glengary Ross and two parts Sophie Kinsella"...". I love Sophie Kinsella, and I'm curious to find out how this book, about a media executive for a newspaper, will remind me of her writing. I'm not sure that I'll be able to wait to read this one either!
I also picked up two library books that I had put on hold this past week, neither one of which I've had the chance to read yet. I picked up The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goodman and Every Last One by Anna Quindlen. I have lots of reading to do, it's a good thing that I'm off work for the summer! What books did you find in your mailbox last week?
Nice mailbox. I've been meaning to read a book by Joanna Trollope but just haven't gotten around to it. I need to fix that!
