Review: "Knit the Season" by Kate Jacobs

The Friday Night Knitting Club is at it again! Dakota Walker is trying to follow her dreams by attending pastry school, but she has responsibilities at her knitting store, Walker & Daughter as well. When she is forced to make a decision if she should spend the holidays with her family or follow an unforgettable career opportunity, she is torn as to what she should do. Flirty Catherine has met her match in the handsome and successful Marco, but can't decide if marriage should be the next step or if she should maintain her independance for a while longer. Anita wants nothing more than to marry her longtime love, Marty, but her interfering son Nathan is determined to stop the wedding. Peri has been offered the job opportunity of a lifetime but is afraid to take it for fear that it doesn't work out, and K.C. is simply upset that everything around her is changing.

I tried, and unfortunately failed, to get into Knit the Season. I suspect that this could be related to the fact that I have not read any of the other Knitting Club novels, so I really didn't have a sense of or any kind of connection to the characters. All of the things that were happening to the characters made little sense to me, and I really felt like I was missing something. When it ended I thought, "Oh, that was it?"

I did, however, like the general themes of the book: being with family, making compromises for the good of others, and finding love after a divorce/death/seperation. Those are the things that we all too often forget about as the hustle and bustle of the holiday season approaches.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the previous Friday Night Knitting Club books, and to anyone who enjoys knitting. If you haven't read any of the books previously and find the series intriguing, I would highly recommend picking up the previous two books before picking up this one. This one may not make much sense without the previous books. At the end of the book several knitting patterns and recipes are included, making this a great holiday gift option for the knitter or the baker who likes to read in your life. Thank-you to Penguin Canada for this review copy!

  1. This is the second review in a row where the reader has not liked the book they read. Must be something in the air. It's too bad because there are so many awesome Holiday stories out there. Better luck with the next one!

  2. I have the first one of the series sitting somewhere in the tbr stacks. Hopefully starting at the beginning (although I don't have any of the follow-ons) will make a difference.

  4. I haven't read any of this series either, so I would probably feel the same way you did.

  5. I read The Friday Night Knitting Club earlier this year and enjoyed it, but was just devastated by the ending! Jacobs is definitely a talented author, but she's on my bad list for making me cry. Not sure if I'll ever come back to read additional books in the series, but if I do, I'll be sure to pick this one up!

  6. I really enjoyed this book, mostly to reunite with the characters.
I agree that not reading the first two books would makes this novel far less pleasant.
