"One Fifth Avenue" Candace Bushnell

*Sigh* I was sad to finish this one. Candace Bushnell’s latest, “One Fifth Avenue” is a glimpse into the lives of those who live at, or aspire to live at, one of New York’s most coveted addresses. The scandalous and juicy secrets about these fictional residents results in a book that is almost impossible to put down.

I’ll admit that I’ve never read an entire novel by Candace Bushnell. There were a few that I started, but just couldn’t get in to and I gave up half way through. Thankfully, “One Fifth Avenue” was a different experience for me than the others. Admittedly, I struggled a bit through the first couple of chapters because there is not one key character in this book, but many. Paul and Annalisa Rice, Mindy, James, and Sam Gooch, and Enid Merle are just a few of the characters that we meet early on and who later play a significant role in the society of One Fifth. However, once I figured out who was who, I was hooked and thoroughly enjoyed finding out their secrets.

Surprising at times, sad at others, but enthralling throughout, “One Fifth Avenue” is a must read for anyone who’s ever wondered how “the other half” of the population lives.

  1. Hi!
I just recently found your blog and started "following" it. I haven't had a chance to read all the way through, but I like what I've read so far!
I have a question though and I'm hoping a fellow book lover can help me. I'm stumped!
I was surfing last week and stumbled on "Great Gift for Book Lovers" link. Cool..so it's a new book that is out. I think it's new anyway. Either the author is from Nova Scotia or the book is based there. Basically about a kid who pushed his friend off the church roof and makes a deal with God so that his friend will live. Then the book deals with all the repercussions in his life and with his family because of his "deal".
I'm not a religious person and this book did not sound like one of those books that would be all message-y. Thing is, I thought it sounded so good that I'd remember the title or author or something. But I don't! Argh!! As someone who also looks through the indigo or amazon book sites...have you come across this book?
Help!! It's driving me nuts and I want to read it!
